There are "Size Limitations" at most Amusement Parks if you have younger children under 3 1/2 feet tall many rides may be off limits, contact parks for restrictions. I speak from past experience if you're child is shorter check it out.
1. Universal Studio's (Burbank Calif.) - for a more mature audience and Children enjoy it to the Max, the tour often changes and really enjoyable, Kids love Back to the future, ET ride, Backdraft, many mores with Shows.
2. Magic Mountain (Valencia Calif.) - for the adventurous, more geared toward the teenage family member, the fastest roller coaster in the world (Viper), Superman, Freefall, if you like the exhilaration of speed, the thrill of motion this is the park for you. Now you must be taller than 48 inch's to enjoy the rides, if you are a shorty we recommend Knotts Berry Farm.
3. Aquarium of the Pacific (Long Beach
Calif.) - if you love aquariums,
Knowledge, this is a very romantic and beautiful setting, Do
you want to pet a Shark! Come try it, Geared towards the more adult audience,
fascinating and breath takingly beautiful. Good deal for Saturday activity.
4. Knotts Berry Farm (Buena Park Calif.) - Rich with history, The best Fried Chicken in the State, Camp Snoopy for the young Children, This park is great for young families, rides include the Ghostrider Roller coaster, the supreme scream (took me up about a mile and drops you, not for the faint at heart), we recommend dinner at Mrs. Knotts whether you go in the park or not.
5. Disneyland and California Adventure - rather expensive, these parks stay crowded, geared toward pre-Teens, a little corney for teenagers. Now they allow the rich folks to pay for guest pass's (they don't have to wait in line) also started some Ride appointments, these are more the commercialized Parks. Also must be over 48 inchs to ride, frustrating for a shorty.
6. Legoland - for the Young children, we have a park just for the kids, those kids not tall enough or old enough for the 48 inch line will Love this Park.
7. Cruise to Catalina Island - this is a nice trip for Saturday Morning, an Ocean cruise to the beautiful Catalina Island. Getting to Catalina.
8. San Diego Zoo and Sea world - (San Diego) - two
hours away in San Diego, you have two nice parks, if you like animals and animal
shows, we do have a Los Angeles Zoo but not
a lot of shows and ambience, Sea World for those that Love fish tricks, not fish
sticks fish tricks, Shamu etc. 
9. Trip to Mexico, Tijuana two hours and ten minutes away, go have a Margarita south of the Border, shop and barter with the Tijuana Merchants, if Caliente Race track is still functioning for Horse and Dog racing it will be seasonal, but they use to have Bull fights also.etc.
10. The Griffith Park Area a great park for horse back riding, Picnicing, some Bar-B-que areas, riding the Park locomotive, visiting Los Angeles Zoo and petting Zoo. Laserium [www] at Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles
11. Los
Angeles State & County Arboretum For the flower Lovers and
romantic Stroll try this.
13. Trip to San Franciso we suggest a Southwest flight low fee or see Below, also check expedia .com for a package excursion. Frisco is a 6 hour car trip.
